The new rector of the Czech University of Life Sciences assumes office at an inauguration ceremony

The new rector of the Czech University of Life Sciences, prof. Ing. Petr Sklenička, CSc., has assumed office. The inauguration ceremony took place in the afternoon on Wednesday, 21 March. In addition to the Rector, the Dean of the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources, prof. Ing. Iva Langrová, CSc., and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering doc. Ing. Jiří Mašek, Ph.D. also assumed office.

In his speech, the Rector pointed out the important role of universities in the Czech education system, in particular at present, which is full of rapid changes. “Education is the essence of strengthening democracy and protecting the freedom of our society,” said Petr Sklenička. The priorities of the Rector include the effective promotion of the interests of the university and an open and friendly management style.

In addition to representatives of Czech and foreign universities and deputies of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of the Environment, the Chairman of the Education Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Václav Klaus Jr., also took part in the ceremony. “In today’s hyperinflation of universities, faculties and students, CZU is one of the oldest and most classical universities. From being a bit marginal when I was in my youth, it has become one of the most respected and most dynamically growing universities,” said Václav Klaus. The mayor of Prague 6, Ondřej Kolář, and the President Emeritus of the Academy of Sciences, Jiří Drahoš, also came to congratulate the Rector.

University graduates who held their 50th anniversary meeting on Wednesday also attended the inauguration. The final part of their program was a social evening where they met with the newly appointed Rector.
