After a two-year break, the CZU Prague Formula Racing university team again went into the circuit of the international Formula Student competition, but this time in a completely new composition.
After a year’s worth of effort, a new team made up of 15 students, mainly from the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Economics and Management, introduced the new single-seat FS.04 “Sparkle”, which took part in two races of the World Series in the 2017 racing season.
The new single-seater underwent complete modifications, and strong emphasis was placed on the new drive unit and an overall increase in reliability. The first race, which took place at the Autodromo Riccardo Paletti circuit in Italy at the end of July, was a trial by fire for the team, and despite the initial technical inspection problems, the team was able to come together and finished in 5th place from a total of 72 teams in the main race. The team in Italy placed 19th in terms of overall score.
After removing minor drawbacks, the team moved to their second race of the season, which was held on home soil, specifically at Polygon Most. The race took place without any major problems, and in the main race the CZU Racing team once again finished in 5th place. However, the biggest success in Most was placement in the Skid-pad discipline, in which one of the pilots had the third fastest time and the team made it on to the podium for the first time in its history.
In the world rankings, the team moved to 103rd place from amongst 610 teams.
