The Czech University of Life Sciences Prague is joining the celebrations of the hundred years since the establishment of Czechoslovakia by preparing a number of interesting events for the fall months.

The year 1918 is one of the most important periods in modern Czechoslovak history. The events that stood at the beginning of the birth of the modern Czech state affected to a considerable extent the fate of university agricultural education and the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. University therefore decided to dedicate the autumn months to this important anniversary. “From mid-September until the end of November, we are organizing a number of thematic events as a commemoration of the anniversary of Czechoslovakia,” says University Rector Professor Petr Sklenička.
The celebrations commenced on 15 September via a Garden Party for graduates and friends of the University in Suchdol. The event kicked off in the morning and the program included entertainment for children and musical performances. Anyone who was interested was able to view the faculties, and University products and the marketplace from the Point One business incubator were available for sale in the Round Hall area. “The afternoon was ended by the ceremonial opening of Václav Havel Bench in the premises between the Rectorate and the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources,” says Rector Petr Sklenička.
Two exhibitions will follow in October. The first one, entitled Tady nová republika (The New Republic), will take place from 15 October to 11 November in the Study and Information Centre. In addition, for a limited time, virtual reality created by the Laboratory for Human Behavioural Research at the Faculty of Economics and Management will be available as part of the exhibition. From October 15, a photographic exhibition entitled 100 let republiky, 100 let velkých změn (100 years of the Republic, 100 years of great changes) will be displayed on the premises, which will present the transformation of Czech agriculture and the university campus in the last century. The Life Science Film Festival will also be part of the anniversary this year, and it will take place from 15 to 19 October. The Republic Autumn will culminate in the Science and Technology Week from 5 to 11 November.
