CZU students successfully represented at the international university games

The fifth annual World InterUniversities Championships in Pula, Croatia, took place from 13 to 17 November.

A total of 58 universities from all over the world took part in the Student Olympics and a total of 2,400 athletes competed for valuable metals. CZU representatives certainly did not lag behind in the tough world competition. The Department of Physical Education sent out the following teams: men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, swimming, table tennis and tennis. Despite the fact that the Suchdol athletes narrowly missed out on several medals, they should not feel ashamed of their results. The basketball players defended last year’s fourth place, losing in the bronze medal game to the home team in the second overtime. The swimmers also attacked the medal positions: Kateřina Fialová finished fourth in the 50 m breaststroke category, just 4 hundredths from the bronze medal, while Robert Chelberg and Kateřina Berková came in fifth in the 50 m freestyle and 50 m backstroke categories. The women’s medley relay also came in fifth. The volleyball players made it to the quarterfinals among the top 20 teams, while the table tennis players captured two fifth place finishes.

Thank you to all of the students who took part in the event for their excellent representation! Next year will take place in Rome.
