Petr Sklenička continues as Rector of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague

The current Rector of CZU Prague, Professor Petr Sklenička, will continue to manage the university for the next four years. At its meeting on Friday, 8th October 2021, the university's Academic Senate elected Prof. Sklenička of two candidates in the first round of elections.

In the last year and a half of his term of office (2018-2021), Professor Petr Sklenička conducted the university through an unprecedented period of coronavirus pandemic: "That time tested crisis management at our university and throughout the country. I have a feeling that perhaps the university has gone through the worst without major scars. It's not just about management, but about all the staff and students, about how each of us coped with this difficult period, or how someone helped their faculty and university beyond their responsibilities," evaluates one of the most challenging periods in the history of the university its Rector. Despite the non-standard period, the visions with which Professor Sklenička took up the position of Rector in 2017 were generally fulfilled. The university has achieved significant success in the last four years in the field of responsible development. "We had the general campus prepared, we pay attention to the principle of sustainability for new buildings, and we are rated as one of the best universities in the field of sustainability - the best in the Czech Republic, in the world rankings we rank as the 30th-50th most sustainable campus. I must also mention the first place in the National Award of the Czech Republic for Social Responsibility 2020, the emphasis on quality research and innovation and the support of capable students," evaluates the image of CZU at the end of his first term of office Petr Sklenička.

Officially, he will begin the next four years as Rector on 1st February 2022. In particular, he would like to strengthen the potential for the fundamental development of scientific and study areas that respond to new challenges. These are, for example, veterinary disciplines, infectious animal biology, food industry, bioeconomics, IT - cybersecurity, and robotics. He would like to secure above-standard funding for these programs in the future.

Another goal is to maintain the number of students at around 18,000 (currently, CZU is the fourth to the sixth largest university in the Czech Republic), introduce new programs, and expand the study programs of the future.

The newly elected Rector will prefer investments in people and state-of-the-art equipment instead of new construction.

"CZU is going in the right direction, and we will try to maintain it in the future. The basis of our strategy is and will be the need to respond to new challenges," emphasizes Professor Petr Sklenička.
