Czech Teachers Supporting Quality Improvement at Hawassa University Institute of Technology in Ethiopia

Aim of the Project:

To improve both practical and theoretical efficiency of knowledge transfer to IoT students through the involvement of Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU).

Outputs of the Project:

Participation of the CZU pedagogues (Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences and Faculty of Engineering) in teaching of chosen subjects - 10 month blocks of direct teaching and preparation of educational materials for subjects to be taught. Chosen subjects will be supported materially as well (for example, equipment of the Laboratory of Biophysics), solar water heater, solar lantern and sun oven.

Provide trainings for Hawassa University (HU) and Institute of Technology (IoT) pedagogues and management. Seminars to increase and upgrade didactical and pedagogical competencies of the IoT / HU fresh graduate teachers will be provided, as well as seminars and workshops for IoT / HU teachers regarding the IoT / HU gaps. Material provision to the IoT. Based on the final list, material and software for improving the teaching at the IoT were purchased during the end of 2013.

The items include specialized books in English (52 titles – in total 214 pieces), chemicals and small equipment for the laboratories, copy machine and printer. Supported science and research at IoT / HU. Experience sharing of publishing and methods of science and research evaluation of the IoT teachers in the form of workshops with the CZU experts. The seminars are focused on research methodology, data collection, statistical analysis of collected data, oral and written presentation of results. The seminars also include recommendations for the proper submission of research grants that can largely affect success of receiving grants and projects submitted and implemented by the IoT / HU in the future. Other activities include submission of a joint research project, establishment of an access to scientific databases and improvement of software background at the IoT and provision of small grants (of 10 000 Ethiopian Birr) to the students of the IoT.
