Korea joins Horizon Europe

The Republic of Korea has completed negotiations to join the Horizon Europe program.

Until now, the EU-Republic of Korea's cooperation in research and innovation has been governed by the Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, which entered into force in 2007. Korea was interested in associating itself with Horizon Europe on 14 February 2022.

The signing of the Association Agreement will take place in the second half of 2024 once all ratification procedures on both sides have been completed. Korea's participation in Horizon Europe is thus expected to start in 2025. Once signed, Korean research organizations will have access to funding under Pillar II of Horizon.
