Project description
The project aims to assess the behaviour of contaminants in agroecosystem components and in interaction with nutrients; to understand the impacts of soil contamination with hazardous substances on the quality of agricultural production. State-of-the-art methodological approaches and instrumental analytical techniques will be used to achieve the objectives. A detailed understanding of the factors influencing the behaviour of contaminants in interaction with natural biogens will lead to a more accurate estimation of the level of contaminant risk in the agroecosystem as a whole. Key activities will be carried out within the scientific research teams:
- Identification of sources, contents, mobility and bioavailability of chemical elements in soil
- Assessment of sources, levels and transformations of organic contaminants in soil
- Modelling the behaviour and transport of substances, spatial estimation and mapping the spatial distribution of monitored substances in soil
- Evaluation of the effect of the investigated pollutants and their metabolites on processes in the rhizosphere of plant roots
- Uptake, accumulation and transformation of hazardous substances by plants and biochemical changes in the plant organism as a result of interaction with these substances
- Evaluation of the effect of the pollutants and their metabolites on soil micro- and mesofauna
- The potential impact of the test substances on freshwater organisms
- Comprehensive assessment of biochemical parameters and quality of animal production due to changes in the content of feed grains
- Effect of contaminants on the presence of pathogenic microorganisms in plants and livestock
- Development and modification of analytical techniques for the determination of a wide range of compounds of interest within the research programme
- Completion of infrastructure
- Developing research Teams
- Development of internationalisation
