Employees of CZU Took to Sports Again, Winners’ Trophy Heads to the Faculty of Economics and Management

The Employees’ Sports Games took place at CZU for the twenty-third time. The founder of the event was Dušan Vavrla, Head of the Department of Physical Education, who still oversees the organisation today. The opening ceremony is never complete without his greeting to all competitors and wishes for many great sporting experiences. This year, he admitted that “up there,” they had at least managed to negotiate weather without rain, even if not without clouds and chilly winds. He also added a few words about the organisation of the sports day:

“As always, seven sports await us, in which teams will compete for the CZU championship trophy, alongside a walking tour around the campus and a cycling trip. I believe everyone already knows the drill and that it will once again be a wonderful day. And I invite you all to the gala evening at Club C, where we will also announce this year’s overall winner. Long live sport and the university!”

Greetings and wishes for a pleasant day to everyone who loves sport and the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague were also expressed by CZU Rector Michal Lošťák.

“I realised that we live in a world of breathtaking changes, and sometimes we ask ourselves in astonishment: My God, what is happening? That is why I am very glad that, even in such a world, there is still an anchor of stability and the certainty that the Sports Games were, are, and will continue to be here. Above all, I would like to thank the Head of the Department of Physical Education and his entire team, as well as all of you who did not hesitate to come despite this weather. I wish you many sporting successes, few doping scandals, and for the fans to behave respectfully and leave their smoke flares in their backpacks.”

With these words, the Rector officially opened the 23rd Employees’ Sports Games of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.

Throughout the day, competitions took place across all sports facilities on the CZU campus, including the swimming pool. According to their interests and abilities, participants could choose from the following sports: five-a-side football, volleyball, foot tennis, tennis, table tennis, swimming, and also pétanque – the traditional sport of the university leadership, which this year the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences dominated.

In the evening, both athletes and other employees gathered at Club C. The gala evening included the ceremonial announcement of winners in individual sports and the presentation of valuable prizes, the crowning of the overall champion of the Games, and a dance party with live music.

“For more than twenty years, this university sports celebration has gained popularity not only among those who enjoy sports or even actively pursue them – something often evident in the high quality of performances in both team and individual disciplines. Once again, we could see this from the strong turnout at the ceremonial opening in the morning. However, much more important than the results themselves is the atmosphere of the entire day, culminating in the shared celebration at the end. And although it did not seem so in the morning, even the weather eventually took pity on us, much to the satisfaction of both athletes and fans,” concludes Dušan Vavrla, director of the 23rd CZU Employees’

Sports Games.
