CZU students did not defend their academic champions' title last year and the year before in the university eight-rower race of the Primátorky on Friday, June 6, 2025. Still, they nevertheless finished in a beautiful second place. The girls exchanged last year's silver for this year's potato medal. In competition with ten universities, this is a tremendous success. This year's kings and queens of the university eight-rower were the crews of Charles University.
Prague has been experiencing a unique sporting spectacle in the first days of June for over a hundred years, since 1913. Primátorky – the Prague Mayors' Race, a legendary rowing challenge on the Vltava, took place this year on June 6-8. On Friday, the university eight-rower race attracted hundreds of fans to the Vltava River.
University Eights Celebrated Its 15th Anniversary
A special category of the Mayors' Race has been the university eight-rower race since 2011, which is inspired by the Boat Race between traditional rivals, the universities of Cambridge and Oxford. Four Prague university teams participated in the first year – in addition to the Czech University of Life Sciences, it was Charles University, CTU, and College of Economics, with CTU securing the historic first place. The men's team in the CZU colours stood on the throne intended for university rowers in 2023, defending its gold last year and finishing in a beautiful second place this year. The girls' crew dropped from the previous silver position to fourth place.
