Erasmus is a European educational programme that enables university students, teachers and other academic staff to gain experience and knowledge through international mobility. Financial support is an essential part of this programme.
Financial support is considered within the Erasmus programme as a contribution to the cost of living abroad. It is not intended to cover all living costs. The financial support varies according to the country where students go and the duration of their stay. For a long-term study stay the scholarship is either €480 or €600 per month, and for a long-term traineeship it is €630 or €750 per month. For a short-term stay, the scholarship is calculated on a day-by-day basis.
Students with fewer opportunities are eligible for an increase in their scholarship.
Financial support within the Erasmus programme is very important as it enables students and academic staff to gain valuable experience and knowledge in an international environment while reducing the financial costs of travelling and staying abroad.
Financial support for a long-term exchange
Financial support for long-term study stays
Long-term study stays are exchange stays of 3 months or longer, i.e. mostly for one semester. Due to budget rules, only students studying a so-called Double Degree or Joint Degree can be supported for a two-semester stay.

Financial support for long-term traineeships
Long-term work placements are stays from 2 to 5 months duration. Longer stays are unfortunately not possible due to budget rules, but it is possible to combine the long-term traineeships one after the other. For example, going to Spain for 4 months and then immediately afterwards to Austria for 5 months.

Financial support for a short-term exchange
Short-term stays are a specific category of stays that are only available for certain types of activities - specifically as a Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) and as a short-term PhD mobility. The duration of a short-term stay can be from 5 to 30 days.
The financial support is calculated per day and is currently 70 EUR for the first to 14th day of the stay and 50 EUR for the 15th to last day of the stay.
Due to budget rules, it is necessary to check with the Faculty or central International Relations Office to find out if support is available for short-term stays.
