On October 1, the Welcome Centre hosted another International Club meetup, bringing together international researchers and PhD students from across different departments to network and practice conversational Czech.
This time, we met at the historic Café Slavia, a legendary 19th-century intellectual hub once frequented by figures like Václav Havel. While we didn't have a direct view of the National Theatre across the street, we watched Střelecký Island instead as dusk settled in. During our quiz, we also unlocked local secrets, including the etymology of Suchdol—a toponym so familiar to anyone who has ever set foot at CZU!
h“We simply reaffirmed the core axiom of café conversations: talk just flows naturally here, regardless of native language or academic field.”
The next edition of the International Club won’t keep you waiting long, and if you have any wishes for one of our next stops, feel free to share them with us!
