We began by learning some useful Czech expressions that come in handy when visiting a pub, including how to order food and drinks with confidence. Practising these phrases in a real Czech pub made the experience both practical and fun.
Hostinec Na Slamníku provided the perfect setting for the evening. With its authentic atmosphere, long history, and regular local patrons, our participants could experience the charm of a traditional Czech neighbourhood pub firsthand. Before the main activity, we sampled a selection of typical Czech pub starters, giving everyone another opportunity to discover local flavours.
The highlight of the evening was our pub quiz. The questions covered topics ranging from Czech pub traditions to our University and Czech culture. Our researchers impressed us with their well-founded knowledge, demonstrating that they had already learned quite a lot about both the university and the country's famous pub culture.
It quickly became clear that this group was ready for a challenge, so next time we'll have to raise the bar a little higher!
The evening was a wonderful opportunity to practise Czech, learn more about local traditions, and enjoy good company in one of Prague's iconic pubs. We are already looking forward to our next International Club meeting.
