Our adventure began early in the morning, when we met at Dejvická and boarded a line bus to Okoř. After arriving, Radim introduced the rules of the treasure hunt that would accompany us throughout the hike. We split into five teams, gathered for a compulsory group photo, and eagerly set off on our journey.
The weather could not have been better. Warm sunshine and a pleasant breeze created the perfect conditions for spending a summer day outdoors. As we walked the approximately 10-kilometre route, the teams tackled a series of treasure hunt challenges. Our researchers enthusiastically embraced this new experience, solving clues, climbing to hidden spots, and even digging up buried treasures. It was a refreshing change from their usual laboratory work and a wonderful opportunity to put their teamwork and problem-solving skills to use in a completely different environment.
The walk also gave everyone plenty of time to chat, get to know one another better, and enjoy the beautiful countryside together. Along the way, we took countless photographs and even had the chance to spot the popular Cyklohráček train passing by, adding another memorable moment to the day.
For lunch, we stopped at the Restaurant Zájezd, where everyone enjoyed a delicious selection of traditional Czech dishes and cooled down with refreshing homemade lemonades. After filling our bellies and giving our legs a well-deserved rest, we continued our programme with a visit to the two sections of the Zoopark Zájezd.
The zoo offered many delightful encounters with animals. Sometimes the biggest challenge was simply finding the well-camouflaged chameleon in its terrarium, while the playful little lemurs reminded us that they can behave just like small children. Brownie, our four-legged companion, had a wonderful time too, especially when "chatting" with the curious meerkats and meeting other animal friends along the way.
As the afternoon came to an end, we made our way back to the bus stop to catch our bus to Prague, wrapping up a day filled with adventure, laughter, and great company.
The treasure hunt proved to be one of the highlights of the trip. It offered our researchers a fun and unusual challenge beyond the laboratory, encouraged teamwork, and created countless opportunities to laugh, explore, and connect with colleagues. Combined with beautiful weather, stunning scenery, delicious food, and fascinating animals, the trek from Okoř to Zájezd was the perfect way to spend a summer Saturday. We are already looking forward to our next adventure together!
