Before your departure, please make sure that you buy a travel health insurance to cover unexpected medical expenses after your arrival in the Czech Republic. EU citizens can temporarily use their own European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), and citizens of the United Kingdom should bring their Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC). For the third-country citizens, it is possible to arrange travel insurance to the extent of necessary and urgent care for the first 90 days of stay with any of the insurance companies that is authorized to provide such insurance.
After you sign your employment contract at CZU, you will be automatically covered by the public state-funded health insurance company Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna (VZP). Your family members will automatically benefit from the public health insurance system if they have permanent residence in the Czech Republic. However, all others must purchase comprehensive health insurance for the duration of their stay in the Czech Republic.

Public Health Insurance
We strongly recommend that family members who are EU citizens register with any of the public health insurance providers and self-pay monthly 2 808 CZK as of 2025.
All foreigners under the age of 18 with a valid long-term residence permit are insured under public health insurance providers regardless of the purpose of the stay (it does not apply to foreigners with a long-term visa and to foreigners with temporary residence of a family member EU). The monthly self-payment is 2 808,- CZK. After turning 18, it is necessary to obtain private insurance. If the foreigner has valid insurance, no later than 8 calendar days before the expiration of the PVZP, the foreigner must register with any of the public health insurance providers.

Commercial Comprehensive Health Insurance
For the family members from third-countries without the permanent residence, it is necessary to purchase a travel insurance to the extent of necessary and urgent care for the first 90 days of stay and purchase comprehensive health insurance for the remaining period of stay or purchase directly comprehensive health insurance. It is possible to arrange the insurance with all insurance companies that are authorized to provide such insurance. The minimum insurance limit per one insurance claim increased to 400 000 EUR.

Vitalitas - This insurance company provides comprehensive insurance for a minimum of 1 month. CZU employees and family members are entitled to a 20% discount with the Vitalitas insurance provider. Please contact the Welcome Center for the discount.
PVZP – This insurance company has comprehensive insurance, however, there is a minimum term of 4 months. There are other products that can be purchased for a shorter period (see PVZP options below).
