On 16 December 2015, under the auspices of the Rector of CZU and members of the CZU Executive Board, the new building of the CZU Interfaculty Centre of Environmental Sciences II (ICES II) was ceremoniously inaugurated. The inauguration ceremony was attended by important personalities, such as the President of the Senate of the Czech Republic, Mr Milan Štěch, Cardinal Dominik Duka, Deputy to the Minister of Education, Mr Stanislav Štech, Deputy to the Minister of Environment, Mr Vladimir Dolejský, and several other personalities from the public and political life. The Mayor of Prague, Ms Adriana Krnáčová, the President of the Czech Rectors’ Conference, Professor Tomáš Zíma, also attended the ceremony.
The ICES II will serve as a teaching and research facility mainly for academic staff and students from CZU Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources and Faculty of Environmental Sciences. The new lecture halls, study rooms, libraries and labs cover a surface of more than 5 500 m2. The ICES II has its own underground garage. The ICES II has a opened rooftop, with a grassed surface, inviting to outdoor relaxing or workshops . It is connected with the ICES I by a practical walk over glass panelled bridge.
The new, seven stories high building, was completed within only 13 months, with a cost of nearly 320 million CZK. The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport supported the new project with a financial grant of 250 million CZK. The Rector of CZU Prague, Professor Jiří Balík CSc, dr.h.c, told those attending the inauguration, that the investment was one of the most important made since the CZU campus was built in the sixties of the past century.
