Rector of CZU prof. Petr Sklenička wishes you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Dear Colleagues, Dear Students,

The end of the year is approaching, and so is Christmas. For some, it is a time to look back; for others, it is a time to make resolutions. We can all agree that it has been a year we will never forget, the year we finally managed a two-year pandemic, Russia invaded Ukraine, and we joined those who helped organize an unprecedented wave of war refugees. Our help was given as a model, so I thank all of you who participated in this help. I am glad that our support continues and that it will continue as long as it is needed. It has also been a year when the whole society has been confronted with an unprecedented increase in energy prices, which brings some households or companies into existential difficulties.

I can imagine that for some, this year has even been the most challenging life test. Nevertheless, our university worked and lived to the fullest. When I say fully, I mean standard contact teaching, practice, research, and internships abroad. I realize that transitioning from online teaching and learning to daily contact classes was not easy for many of you, but we managed it without any problems.

However, 2022 was also a very successful year for CZU. Our ongoing work on improving the quality of teaching, research, the international environment, and other strong university attributes has borne fruit. It has been confirmed by better placement in global university rankings. Thank you to everyone who made it happen. Interest in studying at our university is increasing, we have been able to expand the offer of study programs, we are doing well in science and research, and we are Czech and world university leaders in environmental and social responsibility. In short, we were able to move the university forward in this challenging period. This is not obvious or simple, and you deserve a big thank you.

Of course, the next year probably won't be easy either, but I know very well that we will make it again. CZU is in excellent condition, ready to face economic and other complexities. That is what I wanted to assure you.

Therefore, enjoy the upcoming Christmas holidays in peace and the circle of your loved ones. Rest up, and I look forward to seeing you again after the New Year. We are lucky to work or study at CZU.

Dear colleagues, dear students,

I wish you good health and happiness, peaceful holidays, and a prosperous new year.

prof. Petr Sklenička,
rector
