The men’s team of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague repeated last year’s success in the university eights race at the Prague Mayor’s Eights Regatta. Although they did not reach the top spot, they delivered an excellent performance, won a well-deserved second place. This year, the Charles University crews became the kings of the university eights. Rector Michal Lošťák and the Head of the Department of Physical Education, Dušan Vavrla, were also there to support our team.
For more than a hundred years, since 1913, Prague has witnessed this unique sporting spectacle in the first days of June. The Prague Mayor’s Eights Regatta, a traditional race for eights and single scullers, took place this year from 5 to 7 June. Already on Friday, the university eights race attracted hundreds of fans to the banks of the Vltava River.
The University Eights for the Sixteenth Time
This contest for the title of academic champion has been part of the Prague Mayor’s Eights since 2011. The university eights competition is inspired by The Boat Race between the traditional rivals, the universities of Cambridge and Oxford. The first edition featured four Prague university teams: alongside the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, these were Charles University, CTU, and the Prague University of Economics and Business, with CTU claiming the historic first victory. The men’s team racing in CZU colors stood on the throne reserved for university rowers for two consecutive years, in 2023 and 2024. This year, as last year, they finished in second place.
Thank you for representing the university so brilliantly at these prestigious rowing races, and congratulations!
