A new self-service store, officially opened on the CZU campus on Thursday, March 26, 2026, offers fast and convenient shopping at any time of day or night. The advantages of this innovative concept include ease of use, easy accessibility, and safe operation.
The campus of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague is expanding its services with the new SmartShop 7/24, a modern self-service store that will offer students, staff, and university visitors the opportunity to shop conveniently 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The new store responds to the need for accessible refreshments and basic groceries directly on campus – quickly, easily, and without the limitations of regular opening hours. The store’s assortment includes a full range of food and complementary goods across various categories to meet the needs of the general public. The offer will also include products from the university’s own production, such as dairy and meat products from the Food Pavilion under the a“Um” brand, as well as products from the CZU Winery.
“The unattended store brings a new standard of convenience for students and employees and expands shopping options directly on the university campus. In fact, it was a request from students living in the dormitories. The opening of this new service reflects CZU management’s long-term efforts to improve facilities for everyone who studies or works here,” says Michal Lošťák, Rector of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague.
You can find the new store near the main campus entrance, opposite the U Václava butcher shop. Its operation has been designed to make everyday life on campus as easy as possible. It will be appreciated especially by those who spend long hours at the university during the day, return from classes or work in the evening, or need to make a quick purchase outside the normal opening hours of nearby shops.
“I consider the development of campus services to be essential. It is a long-term trend that is turning our university campus, ranked among the best in the world, into a friendly environment for students, academics, and staff. For this reason, as well, together with the director of our Operations and Technical Department, I enthusiastically welcomed the proposal to establish a modern SmartShop,” says CZU Bursar Jakub Kleindienst.
A key element for shopping in the store is the mobile application SmartSHOP247.app. It serves customers for access to the store and profile management, while also enabling retailers to manage operations through a web interface. The company continues to develop the application and is preparing to expand it with AI assistants that will help operators choose the right location for a new store and assist customers, for example, with monitoring the consumption of purchased goods.
The store has an advanced AI-powered camera system that detects unusual behaviour. Continuous monitoring of the entire premises enables immediate response to attempted theft, customer difficulties during shopping, or medical emergencies. The system also allows regulating the number of people in the store and ensures full traceability in the event of epidemiological risks.
With the opening of SmartShop 7/24, CZU is further strengthening its campus as a modern university environment that, alongside education, also offers high-quality facilities and services matching the needs of today’s students and employees. The emphasis on practicality, accessibility, and user comfort is also reflected in the new store’s motto: Fast & Convenient.
