What is a study stay?

An Erasmus study stay is a unique opportunity for students to spend a semester (or in some cases two) at one of the many partner universities in 32 Erasmus countries and experience what it is like to be a student in another country.

Recognition of study results from a university abroad

The Erasmus+ programme is based on the principle of automatic recognition of the study results achieved while studying abroad. The recognition process is thus already started before the student's departure and, if the selected courses are successfully completed, the recognition is only an administrative matter.

Recognition of study results is requested automatically by signing a Learning Agreement (before departure) and submitting a Transcript of Records (upon return). Only in case the student does not want to have any courses recognised, an additional request must be submitted.

Article 6 of the Study and Examination Regulations of the CZU states "A study stay or internship at another, usually foreign university, organised by CZU within the study of a relevant study programme, is part of this study."

Before departure, the student chooses the content of the Learning Agreement = study plan at the receving university abroad
in Table A select courses from the foreign university (the one you are going to for an exchange)
in Table B select courses that will be recognised if the you complete the courses in table A and the results of which will be registered in the UIS.

Table B may include:

  • CZU courses - in this case, these courses will be automatically recognised if the student, upon returning from abroad, provides a relevant document (usually Transcript of Records) proving that he/she has completed the courses in Table A. The table B may include following CZU:
    • optional - These can be recognised based on completing any course in Table A.
    • compulsory - These can be recognised based on completing an equivalent course in Table A. Equivalent means that the syllabus of this course is at least 50% identical to the syllabus of the CZU course. The assessment of syllabus equivalence is carried out by the guarantor of your study programme at CZU or a person designated by him/her (e.g. the course supervisor).
  • the same courses as in Table A -  In this case, the courses are recognised and registered in the UIS. The courses are thus listed on the so-called Diploma Supplement upon graduation.
  • combination of both - A combination of the above options.

You should always discuss the completion of Table B with your Faculty's International Relations Office and your Student Affairs Office.

In case of applying changes to the Learning Agreement, tables A2 and B2, which are part of the Learning Agreement, are used instead of tables A and B.

The signed learning agreement (including changes) is binding for all the parties (student, CZU, receiving university). According to the Erasmus rules, if the chosen subjects have been fulfilled as defined in the Learning Agreement, it is not possible not to recognise the subjects or to require the student to undertake additional academic activities in order for the subjects to be recognised.

The Erasmus programme does not distinguish between optional subjects, compulsory optional subjects, state examination subjects, etc. According to the Erasmus programme rules, all courses at the home university (CZU) can be recognised.
